Dear Lord!!

I know North Indian guys know nought about South India or the North East. But, I just can't belive the conversation that just happened near the water cooler. We were chatting about where he and his team came from, they had all come from the same place - Pune. He then asked me where I was from. 'Tamil Nadu,' I said. He then lobbed a question straight back to me - Aren't Tamil people called Andhrites? I could just utter 'Oh My God!' That must've been the nadir. He then asked me what language 'they' spoke (Telugu) and told me he always got confused between Tamil and Telugu! What could I have said?

Don't have much to offer by way of advice, being a dumb Firang. However, my dumb firang ass did know that Telegu and Tamil are different. I think you need better water in the cooler.

lol...my roomie says tamil/telugu is like potAYto potAto!!!

but i guess we are also ignorant in a way...i(& a lot of my 'madrasi' friends) used to use the word northie to refer to anyone coming from above the vindhyas...my 'northie' friends took a lot of pain to tell me that there are marathis, bengalis & northies :P

of course, just as German and French are like Potato and Potato. (that didn't turn out well :/) ok, Po-TAH-to and Po-TAY-to. BTW, that is an example for differences in accents, not languages themselves. (just saying)
